Sipo

Sipo, also called Sipo Mahogany (scientific name: Entandrophragmautile), has a heartwood of moderate red-brown color. Sapwood is pale yellow and well defined. Its texture is medium, luster is moderate and grain is interlocked.

Sipo is commonly found in west and central Africa. It is moderately durable to durable and said to possess some insect resistance.

  • Workability

    It is good with glues, and turns and finishes well. Tear-out due to interlocked grain can make some machining operations such as planing and routing difficult. Direct contact with iron can cause discoloration and staining.
